12 Working Girl Style Staples

From age 16 to 26, I’ve always had jobs where I was constantly active and always on my feet. With my move to the East Coast, I decided that I wanted a career that was more stable and on the 9-5 front. With that in mind, I was looking for more of a desk job.

After many years constantly on my feet, I thought this was the best decision. Now, that I have the desk job, I worry about getting a pancake butt. So I have to remind myself to stay active, because I’m not moving around near the amount before.

The other positive I associated with this position, was the ability to finally wear all of my cute clothes. Usually, I would be wearing scrubs, active clothes, or the dreaded uniform. So, this was exciting.

Now, when it comes to clothing, I feel like I am diversified, and I think my mom would attest to that. So, it’s not like I had to go out and purchase a whole new wardrobe for a new desk job. I just needed to “re-create” some outfits and learn to mix-and-match with what I was working with.

So, I put together a list of my 12 Working Girl Style Staples:

  1. The Classic White Button down white button down
  2. Black pants (I have several) black pants
  3. Neutral Sweater neutral sweater
  4. Simple flats flats
  5. Long sleeve silk blouse silk blouse
  6. Simple blazer black blazer
  7. Black Tights black tights
  8. A tote bag tote bag
  9. Black Pumps black pumps
  10. Colored Silk top silk top
  11. Cardigan cardigan
  12. Black Pencil Skirt black pencil skirt

With this list, I believe your wardrobe can expand with accessories and mixing and matching. You will be surprised at how far these will take you.

  1. Although I am not a fashionista, I must say this is quite the impressive list. 12 pieces of clothing to work with that can be mixed and matched…. awesome! Sounds like a great fit as well for anyone who’s considering minimalism. Need one of these posts created for guys too. 🙂 Cheers!

  2. Hi Kristen, Your selection is simple and stylish. I am missing a few items from the top of the list – which will change on the next trip to Macy’s. Any chance you will add a casual girl staples? Thats where I need help. Thanks for the nice pictures, they are pretty and inspiring.
