And so the adventure begins! As mentioned in last weeks post, Mike and I decided to participate in a fitness competition. Therefore, we began 2015 with a cleanse, also known as the Master Cleanse.
This was my fourth time participating in the cleanse, however, it never gets easier. The first time I participated in the cleanse, I read the book and did my research. Each time thereafter, I knew what I was getting myself into. If you would like to know if I would do it again, you can view that here.
We committed to a full 7 days which looked like this:
Day 1 (day before cleanse – ease in):
- 1 cup of coffee
- 2 bananas
- 1 protein shake
- 2 bowls of fruit (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries)
- 10 carrots/10 celery sticks/10 chips 4 tbsp. hummus
- 1 green apple with 2 tbsp. PB
- Water throughout the day
- Chamomile tea
Days 2-5 (Master Cleanse):
- 1 qt. warm salt water
- 100 oz. “lemonade” mixture
- Water
- Chamomile tea
Day 6
- Alternate between OJ, Water, Tea
Day 7
- Herbal Tea
- Yogurt Parfait, water, OJ
- Prosciutto and cheese, 1 glass of wine
- 1 salad
- Guacamole with chips
- 2 ice cream bars (I was pressured, 🙂 )
Overall, the cleanse was a success. Challenging, yes, but that is the point! You now know the control you have over food. I personally felt more focus throughout the day, with the exception of a headache the first day. I didn’t push myself to workout during this time, because I didn’t want to increase my hunger or deplete my energy.
Don’t let the ice cream bars fool you, we went right back on track Monday morning with a full workout and healthy meals throughout the week.
Please share your pros and cons of doing any kind of cleanse or if you have any questions!
